The Internet is a-buzz with tips on productivity or life “hacks” and while each may have their place, I want to share something with you that I believe is much more impactful – making each morning freaking KICKASS. I want your mindset to be in the right place when you head out for the day, each and every day. Whether that’s dropping off your kids at school, grabbing your coffee on the way to your first class or driving into work.
I used to wake up, feel like a groggy mess, jump in the shower and contemplate why the hell I can’t go back to sleep for another 10 minutes…but not anymore! Here are four daily rituals I used to transform those groggy mornings into kickass ones – in under 10 minutes. Who doesn’t have 10 minutes?!
You need to get those juices flowing, right? Yes 🙂 Turn on your favorite tunes and jam out. Music has the ability to quickly change your state of mind. I use the Spotify app, put a couple songs in my queue and turn the volume up. “DJ CT” at your service!
Mantras / Affirmations
What are the mantras or philosophies you live by? Or what are some of your favorite quotes? Pick two or three and write them down on a piece of paper (my handwriting sucks so I have to type them out) 😉 Then take that piece of paper and tape it to the mirror in your bathroom. Now each day when you wake up, you will see them staring right back at you. Recite your mantas, philosophies or quotes and in doing so, you’re practicing positive self talk.
I like to pair this one, movement, with music – kill two birds with one stone, ya know? At its core, it’s simply moving your body and it literally only has to be for a few minutes. Whether that’s a quick walk, practicing yoga, stretching or doing some kind of exercise…the list is endless. What I usually do is a pick an exercise to do each morning. One day it’s push-ups, next day it’s pull-ups, next day it’s squats. I usually do three sets of the exercise to failure. This gives me a quick “win” for the day, something I can check off my to-do list and I’m ready to crush whatever comes my way.
There are some awesome journals out there to practice daily gratitude (IE – The Five Minute Journal) but instead of buying one of those, simply write down one thing you’re grateful each morning. The trick I like to use is that for every 30, 60, or 90 days (whatever duration you would like) you can’t write down the same thing twice. Give it a try and I guarantee it will change your perspective on life.
If you do all four of the aforementioned rituals each morning, you are guaranteed to have a KICKASS start to your day. Each of us have the same 24 hours in a day. Can you make 10 minutes (of those 1,440 minutes) to better yourself and in-turn better those around you? I think you can. Give these a try and let me know your thoughts on social media (Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / LinkedIn) or in the comments below. Look forward to hearing from you!
